New soil washing plant
Main requirements:

  • High volumes of material to be processed in a defined time: 1.000.000 m3 in 3 years
  • High variability of input material: clay soils with rubbles, slag, organics
  • High volumes of water to be treated in closed cycle: 600 m3/h
  • High volumes of fines to be treated: 400 m3/day (pressed sludge)
  • Reduced plant overall dimensions: 2.950 m2 (footprint)
  • Short delivery and commissioning: 8 months from order

Plant details

A challenge

The challenge accepted: Tecnoidea, despite having its expertise in water and sludge treatment plants, supplied a complete soil washing plant on a turnkey basis, aware that through this technology the soils had to be decontaminated in time for the delivery of the areas where the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics will take place in 2026.

Plant engineering flexibility

Despite the careful sampling and analysis performed on the soils, the vastness of the area resulted in a high variability of material to be treated. Tecnoidea selected the best washing and water treatment technology to ensure the required flexibility in all circumstances.

High hydraulic flow rates

Such a high-performance soil washing plant required extremely high washing ratios and hydraulic flow rates. The plant installed by Tecnoidea ensures the closed-cycle recovery of 600 m3/h of wash water.

Clay soils and high sludge production

The fines content reached 40% by weight of the input material. Tecnoidea installed two high beam filter presses FPTA 1620×1620 equipped with 120-plates each, ensuring an output of 400 m3/day of pressed sludge.

Reduced overall dimensions

The material treated by the Soil Washing plant, before being reused on site, must pass compliance tests. This resulted in the need to leave a large area free for material storage and, consequently, to minimize the surface occupied by the plant. For a such performing plant, a footprint of 2.950 m2 only represents a true miracle.

Tight delivery

The contract of such a complex Soil Washing plant requires considerable time for engineering, manufacturing, assembly, commissioning and start-up, normally equal to 12 calendar months. With an order received in July 2021, Tecnoidea managed to start the plant in March 2022, despite the prohibitive period for material and component supplies.
